The British Red Cross helps millions of people in the UK and around the world get the support they need if crisis strikes. A group of staff members and volunteers were at Newport Kingsway Shopping Centre to raise awareness of their work.
AVAIL stands for ‘Amplifying the Voices of Asylum seekers and refugees for Integration and Life skills’. Refugees and asylum seekers work together with the British Red Cross (Newport) to help create, design and implement activities and services.
The British Red Cross is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain. The British Red Cross promotes and communicates the fundamental principles in the UK and overseas. This includes projects aimed at young people in schools and universities in the UK.
‘Sharing is Caring’ is a project by two international volunteers and aims to create a positive environment where they bring people together, both refugees and asylum seekers, with people from the local Newport community: to share different cultures, experiences and for entertainment. The social group meets at 1:30 PM every Friday at the Bradbury Hose in Mission Court.
