Usk Town Councillor Izzy Brown said: “This is the first time we have held a busking event at Usk. We have enjoyed a wonderful day that has been full of bright sunshine and happy music.”
A map of the Busking Zones on Saturday morning was available to let visitors know where to see the Buskers around town between 10am – 4pm. They also performed on the stage for the busking competition in the Owain Glyndwr Field.
Usk Mayor Alec Leathwood said: “There has been a delightful mix of musical talent at Usk for this event. I came to Usk in 1966 and immediately fell in love with the town and its people. Usk is not only a very beautiful town set in the centre of a beautiful county; it is a very real community and one, which I am proud to serve. It is difficult to judge the talent for the competition with so many great acts.”
On Sunday there was a great range of entertainment on the stage and field including children’s circus workshops from Jitterbug Circus and live music from the 3 winners of The Big Usk Busk competition, Usk Brass Band, The Buskuleles of Usk, Usk Singing Club, Silurian, Velha Bataria Samba Band and Untapped Sound. Refreshments were available but as in previous years people were free to bring a picnic and their own chairs. Izzy Brown said: “It was a wonderful summer weekend of entertainment and the streets of Usk really did come alive to the sound of music.”
Silurian on stage at the event: Silurian are a dynamic acoustic duo playing an upbeat mix of rock, Britpop, country, folk, rhythm and blues.
